What Causes Thunder And Lightning?

What Causes Thunder And Lightning?

I’ve been wondering what causes thunder and lightning. I know I should probably already know this because I think I learned it in school but I must have forgotten. So, I am going to explain it to everyone who is wondering. We will learn together!

My official question for this topic is What causes thunder and lightning?

I did some research on that topic and this is what I found for the lightning part.

The positive ions move towards the tallest objects around like trees and telephone poles, trying to get as close as possible to the sky. As for the negative ions, they move downward rapidly in a precursor to lightning called a “stepped leader”. This process happens very quickly, in only milliseconds, so it is too fast for the human eye to see. The two groups of ions meet in the middle, creating a brilliant flash of lightning. While this is how cloud-to-ground lightning strikes occur, lightning bolts can also move from cloud-to-cloud.

And here is what I found on thunder.

Thunder follows a clap of lightning because the speed of the sound through the air is much slower than that of the electron flow that creates lightning. The sound reverberates outwards much like a shockwave, spreading out from the source. Meanwhile, the light from the flash reaches our eyeballs almost instantly.

I found this information at Science Trends.

WOW! THAT’S A LOT OF INFORMATION!!! I think that something like this is interesting to know because next time that you see lightning or hear thunder you will know how it formed. I hope you enjoyed my article on what causes thunder and lightning?

How My Day Went

So, today I really just played some games with my friends. BUT, yesterday is really the interesting part. What I did was, first, I had a snowball fight with my family. Then, I was the only one left outside in the snow. So, I decided to roll up a small snowball and roll it on the ground. Eventually, it got bigger and bigger until I could barely even roll it anymore. So, I left it there and rolled another just a little smaller. After, I rolled the smallest one. Finally, I stacked them and IT WAS A SNOWMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After that, I got a few rocks from the driveway and put them as eyes and a mouth. VOILA!!! THERE WAS MY SNOWMAN!

Well that’s basically all that I have for you today. I hope you have a wonderful day or night. BYE!
